The weather gods once again smiled on this year’s Nordstjernan Invitational 10km and 5km race, which took place on Wednesday 24th October. The air was clear and crisp, and the autumnal colours of the trees around Djurgårdskanalen gave a fine backdrop to the third running of the race which for those taking part has become a highlight of the running calendar.
There were impressive victories for the winners of the 10km races, with Carl Fredrik Danielsson, fresh from his sub 2:30 marathon performance in Berlin, winning the men’s race in a superb 33:19, whilst in the women’s race Helena Bergenheim finished nearly 6 minutes clear of second place in 38.27. In the 5km races Frans Heijbel took charge of the men’s race with a commanding 16:39, whilst Andrea Engsäll took first place in the women’s race with 23:59. Full race results can be found here.
Overall there was a very high standard of performance and a great spirit between the runners to cheer everyone to the finish line. As usual the race was followed by a prize giving ceremony and dinner back at the Nordstjernan offices for all the participants. We at Running Sweden would like to congratulate all those who took part and also thank all the functionaires who helped to make the race a success. We look forward to next year’s race with eager anticipation!
